December 2011 Newsletter

For unto us a Child is born; unto us a Son is given And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Although Jesus, the Son of God, existed from all eternity He came to earth as a child 2000 years ago. Because He came as a child to a life of poverty, He understands what our children experience. Because He understands and cares, He comes to them, and to us, as -…

Norrie’s November Notes

Around the world education is generally valued but here in Zimbabwe it appears to have an even higher ranking. Every parent wants to see their child have the opportunity for an education and every child dreams of going to school. Because many families cannot afford a uniform and school fees, for many children it remains a dream only.

Here at the Village of Hope Zimbabwe our school is a major part of our Village. It consists of our Preschool with 3 teachers and 88 children ages 3 to 5; our Primary-School (CHAPS – Cornelius Hope Academy Primary School) Grades 1 – 7 with 14 teachers and …

October 2011 Newsletter

Give thanks to Him and praise His name for the Lord is good.  His unfailing love continues forever and His faithfulness continues to each generation.
Psalm 100:4, 5
While Canadians are celebrating Thanksgiving, we here at the Village of Hope have been celebrating and giving thanks also. Our greatest reason for celebrating is always the children – we see first-hand the difference that this Village is making in the lives of hundreds of little ones. Celebrate with us!

This weekend we also celebrated for four days the 10th Anniversary of Hope Community Church – in so many ways the hub of the Village of Hope Zimbabwe. …

New Season [August 2011 Newsletter]

We live our life in seasons!

To each portion, God has set time and days of His choosing. What better example than from Jeremiah speaking with the captive Israelites in Babylon,
“When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future….” (Jer. 29:10-11)
Or can it be put more plainly than in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven…”

“Revisiting the Altars” – July 2011 Newsletter

Altars were created at significant moments in Israel’s past when God spoke, visited or made promises to His people! Today we can symbolically call those same significant moments, our own altars.

Not so long ago, a dear friend, VOH Board Member and Hope Community Church’s Associate Pastor K. Chipise, preached on ‘revisiting the altars in our life’. Revisiting gives us an opportunity to remind God – the way Moses (Deut. 9), Nehemiah (Neh. 1) , Aaron (Exodus 24) and other ‘old Faithfull’s did – of His promises along the way… (read more via the .pdf below)

Snapshots In Time… (April/May Newsletter)

As I drive my children to school, peeking at the headlines on all the local government and independent newspapers has become a regular part of the day. “Time for Zim’s Egypt moment?” , “Khadafi in Zim”, “Mass government rally planned”, tell stories in themselves. I don’t need to buy it and dig deeper, the tension around us is rising again as the country gears up for another national election and constitutional reforms…. First Steps – January 2011 at VOHZIM

As a family we enjoyed 3 weeks of total rest and visits from our eldest son – home from Bible College – and Gord’s sister and her husband. What a joy to share a little of our lives with them over the past 5 years, to see the Village of Hope and Zimbabwe all over again, from a new-comers eyes. So much has become routine and ‘normal’ to us that never used to be. It was a blast! (read more of our newsletter in the embedded .pdf below)
