The Village of Hope is very involved in community life.
The declining infrastructure in Harare means city water is often shut off. Many people in the community of Good Hope, get their water from a tap placed at the gate and run from a borehole on Village property (water queue pictured right). The Village also opens its sports fields to after-school programs and family events.
‘CHOSEN ONES’ feeding program
Surrounding the Village in the outlying area are many smaller villages of farm workers and families who make very little money and live in desperate conditions. Many of these smaller villages have been devastated by AIDS and have many orphaned children.
Currently Village Of Hope operates a feeding program in 3 of these plots every week day. Each morning small children are taught a Bible story, a preschool lesson, and fed a nutritious porridge in these areas.
We have had further opportunity to bless these families through the distribution of blankets, shoes, clothing and baby items through donations, and to assist in many emergency and ongoing medical needs that they could not otherwise afford.
Needy children identified through this program are sponsored by families in Canada through ChildCare Plus, and will then attend Cornelius Hope Academy Primary School (CHAPS) on the grounds of the Village of Hope.
